High School ROTC Teacher

Knox County Schools is seeking qualified applicants for the following position: High School ROTC Instructor Location: Karns High School School Year: 2026-2027 Job Summary: Under general supervision of the Principal; designs, implements, and delivers the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) curriculum. The work of the class involves presenting courses on military, civics and related subjects, conducting drills and exercises in accordance with the prepared lesson plans, instructional materials, and aids provided by the military. Qualifications: Military Certification as a Trained JROTC InstructorMust be eligible for a Tennessee Teaching License and meet the minimum qualifications required by the Tennessee Department of Education. Job Duties/Functions: Reports to PrincipalInstructs cadets in the JROTC curriculum.Develops short and long range plans for achieving curriculum goals, gathers appropriate materials,establishes clean objectives for lessons, and formulates appropriate lesson plans.Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and the personal growth of students.Evaluates student progress and counsels cadets on their performance within the JROTC program.Motivates and encourages students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a foundation for becoming a responsible citizen.Monitors student movement to ensure a safe and orderly environment.Organizes, supervises and participates in extracurricular activities for JROTC cadets to include color guard, drill teams, academic teams and other special activities.Maintains supply inventory.Attends staff development programs, department meetings and other professional activities.Maintains a working knowledge of new instructional materials, methods, technology and equipment.Perform other duties as assigned.
