Summary This position is located in a Regional Office of the Forest Service within Region 5. The position serves as and Assistant Director to the Director of Fire and Aviation Management (FAM). The incombent has the responsibility for specific programs and tasks in the Corporate Fire Program. It's an awesome responsibility - but the rewards are as limitless as the views.Major Duties: Duties listed are at the full performance level GS-07 Assist in preparing correspondence relating to grants, agreements, memorandums of understanding and/or contracts between the agency and outside sources. Assist in performing periodic review of records to ensure accuracy and completeness. Perform non-routine functions such as preparation of reports using database and spreadsheet software, desktop publishing, and troubleshooting. Perform a variety of administrative functions utilizing standard office equipment. Assist in analyzing student needs, to provide recommendations in accordance with established criteria. Assist in conducting inventories to determine replenishment levels of training supplies and materials. Conduct fact-finding duties by searching files to find, organize and report on relevant information Utilize initiative in carrying out recurring assignments independently without specific instructions, but refers deviations, problems and unfamiliar situations nor covered by instructions to the supervisor for decision or help. Plan and/or carry out successive steps and handle problems and deviations in the work assignment in accordance with instructions, policies, previous training, or accepted practices in the occupation. Supervise students and volunteers in purchasing and stocking of course materials, classroom set-up, and course closeout activities for each course.
