Deputy Director

Summary The Institute of Education Sciences (IES) is the statistics, research, and evaluation arm of the U.S. Department of Education. Our mission is to provide scientific evidence on which to ground education practice and policy and to share this information in formats that are useful and accessible to educators, parents, policymakers, researchers, and the public. This position may be detailed to another Federal agency. Major Duties: 1. Provides direction and coordination of the day-to-day operation of the Institute, which involves leading staff involved in administering a nationwide program of grants and contracts. 2. Consults with Commissioners and other officials about current and potential program needs. He or she chairs high-level meetings with key staff who bring deep expertise to bear on major issues and makes decision and issues directives on planning, program, and policy matters, including formulation of cross-cutting operating plans and activities. 3. Supervises the planning, formulation, and execution of program and salary expenses for the Institute and ensures that budget submissions and quarterly operating plans conform to the Chief Financial Officer's directives.
