Literacy AdvisorDeadline:?Open until filled SummaryUnder the direction of the Director of Education, the Literacy Advisor will work in classrooms with teachers and students, supporting literacy initiatives to impact student achievement in literacy. They will provide leadership for professional development in literacy, especially the science of teaching reading. Working collaboratively with a team of education professionals, the Literacy Advisor will demonstrate a strong commitment to student learning.DetailsSpecific Job TasksThe Literacy Advisor will perform tasks as assigned by the Shibogama Education Department and cooperate with school principals. These tasks include but are not limited to the followingLead school-wide literacy assessment as requiredProvide coaching to teachers within the framework established by ShibogamaTravel to Shibogama communities and work in classrooms with teachers and students to support literacy developmentContribute to the delivery of professional development and coaching support for school staff and individual teachersMonitor, assess, evaluate, interpret, and report on literacy initiatives at the schools; support teachers to adjust instruction based on dataWork with educators to identify issues with students or curriculum, set goals, and solve problemsCreate/source literacy teaching material for educatorsMaintain and submit records as outlined by ShibogamaAttend ongoing professional developmentAny other duties as required. Competencies RequiredThe Literacy Advisor should have the following competenciesThe ability to effectively deliver the Ontario Language Arts curriculumThe ability to provide literacy support/coaching to students and teachers within classroomsThe ability to monitor, assess, evaluate, and report on student progressThe ability to provide leadership in the collection, analysis and interpretation of data related to student achievementThe ability to analyze problems and formulate recommendations which result in effective student achievementThe ability to develop and maintain positive relationships that foster a climate of trust and respectThe ability to work and communicate effectively with students, teachers, parents/guardians, and community groupsThe ability to demonstrate strong oral and written communication skillsThe ability to work in a multi-cultural environmentThe ability to maintain and promote confidentiality
