Education Program Specialist (EDIS)

Summary About the Position: Performs with a high degree of independence, establishing program priorities, goals, and objectives with the expectation of autonomous implementation. Incumbent has full responsibility and individual accountability for the successful implementation of Educational and Developmental Intervention Services (EDIS) across the U.S. Army. Performance is measured in terms of achievement of goals within the overall mission of the U.S. Army Medical Command and DoD. Civilian employees serve a vital role in supporting the Army mission. They provide the skills that are not readily available in the military, but crucial to support military operations. The Army integrates the talents and skills of its military and civilian members to form a Total Army.Major Duties: Serves as a senior program specialist providing technical expertise to the Chief, Warfighter and Family Programs. Monitors legislative updates and assist in identifying potential impacts on Educational and Developmental Intervention Services policy or procedures. Provides professional guidance on Educational and Developmental Intervention Services program requirements. Collects and analyzes program data from the Special Needs Program Management Information Systems. Participates in short and long range planning activities for Educational and Developmental Intervention Services. Provides technical assistance to Medical Readiness Command Program Managers who oversee Educational and Developmental Intervention Services activities within their regions. Provides input to Medical Command/Office of the Surgeon General Program Objective Memorandum and Planning, Programming, and Budget Execution System processes. Participates in meetings and working groups with the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Department of Defense Education Activity, and other agencies to discuss policies and programs for Individuals with Disabilities Education Act services.
