The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in instructional and assessment practices, and a passion for teaching. This individual will have opportunities to be involved in the co-curricular and extra-curricular activities that enhance students’ experiences at school. This teaching position involves teaching general music classes to primary and intermediate students and Band to intermediate students.Qualifications:Strong Piano skills are preferredBachelor of Music or Music Education degree or academic equivalent preferredMajor concentration in instrumental instruction is an assetMusic education teaching methodology courses in the relevant areas; Orff Training is preferableExperience in teaching instrumental music and choral programs is an asset Coursework and/or knowledge of choral music instruction for young and intermediate voicesBritish Columbia Teachers' certificationIndependent School experience is an assetCoaching and/or extra-curricular experience is an assetKnowledge, Skills and Experience:Strong knowledge of British Columbia Curriculum and pedagogyDemonstrated experience of implementing a strong instrumental and choral music program, including designing, organizing, and conducting student performancesStrong knowledge of instrument-specific teaching methods and conductionPassion for increasing knowledge of musical styles and techniqueKnowledge of the current research on girls and learning, developing critical 21st-century global capacitiesDemonstrated experience as an inspiring, innovative and enthusiastic educatorCollaborative and flexible, supportive and effective team-playerAbility to develop strong professional relationships with all stakeholdersGood communication and interpersonal skillsStrong organizational and time-management skillsDemonstrated commitment to educating the whole studentDemonstrated ability to integrate technology purposefully to transform learningDemonstrated ability to differentiate instruction and assessment practices to meet the needs of individual learnersExperience using an inquiry-based and project-based learning approachCommitted to continuous professional growth and improvementFaculty at York House are provided with the following:A diverse and inclusive work environmentSmall class sizes and time for planning and working collaborativelyAccess to exceptional resourcesA robust peer Mentorship ProgramCompetitive compensation and benefits package
