Teachers – Pakân Elementary and Junior High School Pakân Elementary and Junior High School serves approximately 130 students from the Whitefish Lake  #128 (Goodfish Lake) First Nation on Treaty Six territory. We are seeking passionate, culturally  responsive educators who are committed to inspiring students while fostering academic achievement,  creativity, critical thinking, and strong communication skills in a supportive, community-focused learning  environment. Successful candidates will deliver high-quality, grade-level instruction through engaging learning  experiences, ongoing assessment, and meaningful feedback that support student growth. Working in  partnership with families, colleagues, Elders, and Knowledge Keepers, our teachers help ensure every  student has the tools and support they need to succeed. We are looking for educators who are committed to decolonizing educational practices and creating  inclusive, respectful learning environments that honour and celebrate Indigenous knowledge, cultures,  and perspectives. Key Responsibilities Curriculum Delivery • Plan and deliver engaging, curriculum-aligned instruction while incorporating Indigenous  perspectives, literature, storytelling traditions, and ways of knowing. • Foster critical thinking, creativity, and meaningful learning experiences that reflect Indigenous  voices and lived experiences. Differentiated Instruction • Use a variety of instructional strategies to meet the diverse learning needs, strengths, and cultural  backgrounds of students. • Implement appropriate accommodations and supports to ensure equitable access to learning for  all students. Assessment and Evaluation • Design and implement both formative and summative assessments, including projects,  presentations, essays, quizzes, and tests. • Provide timely, constructive feedback and use assessment practices that are culturally responsive  and respectful of Indigenous ways of knowing. Classroom Management• Create a safe, welcoming, and productive classroom environment by establishing clear  expectations, encouraging positive student behaviour, and implementing classroom management  practices that align with Indigenous cultural values. Student Support and Mentorship • Support students' academic, personal, and social development through positive relationships and  mentorship. • Encourage meaningful connections with Elders and Knowledge Keepers as part of students'  educational experience. Collaboration • Work collaboratively with colleagues, families, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and support staff to  promote student success, well-being, and holistic development. Professional Growth • Actively participate in professional learning opportunities to strengthen instructional practice,  support the decolonization of education, and remain current with effective approaches to teaching  Indigenous learners. Qualifications • Bachelor of Education. • Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate or the means to obtain one. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. • Strong organizational and time management skills. • Ability to motivate, engage, and inspire diverse learners. • Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive teaching practices. • Must submit the most recent Vulnerable Sector Check and an Intervention Record Check. Preferred Qualifications • Experience integrating technology to enhance teaching and learning. • Knowledge of assessment for learning principles and best practices. • Understanding child and adolescent development and educational psychology. • Experience working in Indigenous communities or demonstrated knowledge of Indigenous  histories, cultures, perspectives, and worldviews. • Knowledge of the nêhiyawêwin language and culture is an asset.Why Join Pakân Elementary and Junior High School? We value our educators and are committed to supporting their professional and personal well-being.
