Supervisory Education Program Specialist (TRIO Director)

Summary This position is part of the Haskell Indian Nations University, Bureau of Indian Education (BIE), Department of the Interior (DOI). As a Supervisory Education Program Specialist (TRIO Director) you will be responsible for developing and implementing programming to promote student persistence and retention, student success and graduation. The BIE's mission is to provide quality education opportunities from early childhood through life in accordance with the tribes' needs for cultural and economic well-being and in keeping with the wide diversity of American Indian tribes and Native Alaska villages as distinct cultural and governmental entities (25 CFR ? 32.3). The Haskell Indian Nations University mission is to build the leadership capacity of our students by serving as the leading institution of academic excellence, cultural and intellectual prominence, and holistic education that addresses the needs of Indigenous communities.Major Duties: As a Supervisory Education Program Specialist (TRIO Director), GS-1720-11, your typical work assignments may include the following under supervision: Providing supervision, leadership and mentoring of staff, tutors and student workers in the TRIO-Student Support Services (TRIO-SSS) program. Implementing, managing, and supplementing strategic student support programing related to peer tutoring, summer bridge program, seminar course, first generation students, student employment and other initiatives. Ensuring TRIO-SSS is responding to student issues and concerns; working closely with students to resolve all issues to ensure ongoing satisfaction and successful progress towards graduation. Working collaboratively with all university departments to identify incoming students who need additional support; developing and monitoring academic plans accordingly. Performing instruction duties, depending on need. Assigned to a student caseload to create and manage academic success plans and ensure student progress.
