Summary The Supervisory Health Care Education Specialist position serves as the Designated Learning Officer assigned to the Hospital Education Department at the VA Connecticut Healthcare System. The position reports to the Chief Nurse of Education and Learning Resources, and performs a variety of supervisory and analysis work. For more information on the Department of Veterans Affairs, go to http://www.vacareers.gov.Major Duties: Major duties include but are not limited to: Supervises education staff performing work at various levels. Provides administrative and personnel management functions. Resolves complaints, develops improvement plans, and conducts performance reviews. Provides project management support of learning initiatives for a medical center. Develops administrative policies for the conduct of program operations. Maintains budget formulations and fund control points. Participates in committees, focus groups, and represents an Education Service on special projects. Submits reports to higher level leadership advising on management issues and making recommendations for improvements. Collaborates with program managers, developing, adapting, and implementing educational programming. Oversees compliance to agency, accreditation organizations, and other local, state, and federal regulations, in cooperation with department and facility leadership. Investigates complex stakeholder and customer service issues that require in-depth review and expert knowledge of education and learning resources. Makes modifications to processes based on assessments of customer service recovery issues. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4:00pm Telework: Not available Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Position Description/PD#: Supervisory Health Care Education Specialist/PD689-04169-0 Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases. Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year). Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child. Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66. Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA. Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement).
