Summary The Learning Resources Office has the responsibility for planning, developing, implementing, directing, evaluating and coordinating the overall education programs at the San Francisco VA Health Care System (SFVAHCS). Primary responsibilities include all forms of educational development including administrative training programs, continuing computer training, employee education and career development, with an integral role in facility workforce development and succession planning. Established in 1934, the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Health Care System (SFVAHCS) has a long history of conducting cutting edge research, establishing innovative medical programs, and providing compassionate care to Veterans. SFVAHCS has 104 operating beds and a 120-bed Community Living Center. Primary and mental health care is provided at outpatient clinics in: Clearlake, Santa Rosa, Eureka, Ukiah, Oakland and San Bruno. There is a specialized homeless veteran's clinic in downtown San Francisco. More History can be found here: http://www.sanfrancisco.va.gov/about/history.aspMajor Duties: LOCATION OF POSITION WILL BE DETERMINED DURING SELECTION PROCESS. The Education Program Specialist serves as a consultant and subject matter expert for specific educational needs is essential for this position. Must be self-directed and meet self-appointed deadlines without supervision to meet the following duties Responsibilities include strategic management and planning for education and development of all hospital staff, workforce and succession planning, and employee engagement. The incumbent has full professional responsibility for all forms of educational development including but not limited to: Determines training needs by conferring with Health Care Group Leaders, conducting surveys, reviewing reports, or interviewing employees. Assists in the evaluation of Education needs of VA Health Care Groups through an annual Educational Needs Assessment. Contacts identified health care professionals to review suggested needs to determinewhether education can resolve identified problems. Assessment of training needs of specific groups of employees. Participates in VISN-wide and national assessment activities. Regularly reports to the Pentad and VISN committees on educational, engagement, and succession planning needs and performance measures. Active member of facility and VISN committees. Monitors approved education projects, providing technical assistance on substantive educational as well as administrative programs.
