Our 10-acre campus provides modern facilities, as well as beautiful outdoor spaces and a daily connection to nature.Reporting to the Assistant Director, Operations, the Manager, Theatre coordinates the technical operations, safety, and facility management for all campus performance spaces, productions, concerts, and events. This is a highly collaborative role that works closely with students, staff, and teachers to support school events, manage theatrical systems, and train students in stagecraft. This role is based in-person, from 8:00am 4:30pm. However, this role requires a high degree of flexibility; frequent evening and weekend work is required to support the production schedules and operational needs of the School. This position is not eligible for remote work. Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities:â Responsible for the technical operations of all CHS productions, concerts, major assemblies, guest lectures, rentals, and other community events in the Theatre, drama studio, assembly hall, and other locations as required â Produce two major school theatre productions each year:â Middle School Musicalâ Senior School Productionâ Participate in the play selection process, taking into consideration technical demands and costsâ Secure performance rights and the delivery of production materials from licensing agenciesâ Facilitate the design, technical, and logistical aspects of each production, including scenery, rigging, props, costumes, lighting, sound, and projectionâ Create production budgetsâ Hire technical, construction, and design specialists as neededâ Oversee teacher co-curricular involvement in the productions, including scheduling and training (tickets, front of house, posters, etc)â Lead production meetingsâ Create detailed production schedulesâ Establish operating policies and guidelines for the safe use of the schools theatre facilities and performance spaces, and proactively communicate and implement these to students, teachers and staffâ Program and operate theatrical lighting, sound, and video systems in the theatre and drama studio â Live stream and/or create video and audio recordings of events when requestedâ Setup temporary AV systems around campus (sports days, outdoor band performances, etc)â Facilitate live translation services as requiredâ Participate in bi-weekly whole school operations meetings, and assist in the planning of school eventsâ Perform regular maintenance and repairs on theatre equipmentâ Coordinate the movement of choir risers, acoustic shells, and the grand piano on and off stage to accommodate the different needs of performance groups and classesâ Train, schedule, and supervise our student tech crew in the areas of lighting, sound, projection, stage management, and backstage safetyâ Train staff and teachers on the use of theatre and AV equipment as requiredâ Responsible, in conjunction with the IT department, for the AV systems in Manrell Hall, the junior and senior school gyms, and the junior school atrium, as these are frequently used as event and performance venuesâ Oversee the Theatre and Foyer calendars, which include class schedules and event bookings, and find solutions to schedule conflicts; this involves daily communication with teachers and staff, as these spaces are in high demandâ Provide AV support and facility supervision/management for rental events in the theatre and other Crofton venues as requiredâ Partner with the IT Department to ensure AV systems, equipment, and services operate efficiently and effectively Minimum Qualifications:â Minimum 3 years of experience working as a technician in the professional theatre or live events industry. Experience as a Technical Director or Production Manager is highly desirableâ Experience working with or mentoring youth is highly preferredâ Clear Criminal Record Check (vulnerable sector) is a mandatory condition of employment Skills/Competences:â Technical Expertise: Strong working knowledge of digital lighting and sound consoles and routing systems. Expertise in stagecraft, rigging safety, lighting design, and live sound mixing.â Communication & Collaboration: Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with students, educators, rental clients, and staffâ Project & Time Management: Highly organized with a proven ability to manage multiple production schedules, timelines, and budgets simultaneouslyâ Adaptability: Proactive, self-motivated, and highly flexible with the ability to adjust to changing priorities, fluid event schedules, and active school environmentsPhysical Demands:â Ability to safely lift, carry, and move equipment or materials weighing up to 50 lbs on a regular basis. Ability to work at heights (ladders, catwalks) safely.
