Elementary School Librarian

Anchorage School District invites applications for the following position: Elementary School Librarian Location: Ursa Minor Elementary School Date Available: 08/14/2026 Job Summary: School librarians instill a love of learning in all students, ensuring that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information and have equitable access to information. Librarians empower students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information, and collaborate with classroom teachers and specialists to design and implement lessons and units of instruction, and assess student learning and instructional effectiveness. The school librarian provides the leadership and expertise necessary to ensure that the school library program is aligned with the mission, goals, and objectives of the school and the school district, and is an integral component of the learning/instructional program. The position reports to and is evaluated by the site principal. Job Requirements:The following are required:A valid Alaska initial, professional, or master teaching certificate with an endorsement in library science, media services, or school librarian.An educator with a current teaching certificate who enrolls in a library certification/endorsement program may be qualified for this position through ASD's Grow Your Own Librarian (GRYOL) program.Evidence of content knowledge shown by:a posted degree in the content area of this position; ora posted minor in the content area of this position; orpassing Praxis Subject Assessments scores (formerly Praxis II) in the content area of this position; or endorsement in the content area of this position.The following is preferred:A valid Alaska type C special services certificate with an endorsement in library science, media services, or media specialist.A master's degree.
