Teaching Position – Indigenous Support, Literacy, and Prep Teacher School District No. 10 – Arrow Lakes, in the beautiful West Kootenay region of southeastern BC, is situated on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the Sinixt, Sylix, Ktunaxa, and Secwepemc Peoples. We have the following continuing contract teaching opportunity for the 2026-2027 school year: Position: Indigenous Support, Literacy, and Prep TeacherSchool: Burton Elementary SchoolFTE: 0.5 FTE (0.3 Continuing + 0.2 Temporary)Effective: September 1, 2026Salary Range: $67,040 - $119,548 Position OverviewSchool District 10 is committed to fostering a collaborative community of learning grounded in strong academics, overall well-being, and a meaningful connection to the land. The successful candidate will share our commitment to this purpose and contribute actively to our vibrant learning community Burton Elementary SchoolAssignment / ScheduleThis teacher provides specialized learning support to Indigenous students (0.25 FTE), prep coverage (0.05 FTE), and literacy support (0.2 FTE temporary). This teacher works primarily at Burton Elementary but also supports our learners at Edgewood Elementary School. These are both four day / week schools. Required characteristics/ strengths include:a) A valid Teaching Certificate from the BC Teacher Regulation Branchb) Post-secondary education and experience teaching intermediate grades, experience in multi-grade classrooms is an assetc) Demonstrated ability in planning and designing engaging learning activities using BC curriculumd) Strong interpersonal skills and strengths working within a team environmente) Excellent classroom management skills and proven ability to engage all learnersf) Excellent ability to differentiate for all learners and co-plan for diversity and engagementg) Successful experience integrating socio-emotional learning and self-regulated learningh) Demonstrated understanding of indigenous cultures, and experience integrating First Peoples of Principles of Learning into teaching practicei) Successful experience in facilitating outdoor learning experiences with a focus on place consciouses and cross curricular learningj) Commitment to co-developing the School Growth Plan and collaboratively organizing for learningk) Exemplary use of assessment strategies that engage learners and foster learningl) Professional learning inquiry experience that informs professional practicem) Commitment and expertise in building relationships with parents and communityn) Willingness to participate in the school's extra-curricular programs will be an asset
