Student Mental Health CounsellorNew Horizons School, a K-9 school for gifted learners,  is seeking a school-based student counsellor to provide mental health support. This is a ten-month part-time position with flexible hours between 20-25 hours per week. The position will commence August 27, 2026. Gifted students by nature often have diverse social, emotional, and intellectual needs, often as a function of their asynchronous development. We are looking for a skilled team player who will become an integral part in our continued success of meeting the needs of gifted learners.For more information about our school visit www.newhorizons.caResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate implements activities, plans, and routines that facilitate the maintenance of a climate that fosters the developments of personal, social, and educational functions for students and the classroom. Specifically, the successful candidate:Provides counseling (individual and group) to students;Social/Emotional SupportMental health counselingEducational counselingGuidance and career counselingCollaborates closely with classroom staff to support the implementation of strategies in the learning environment;Contributes to the development of individualized program plans (IPPs) Contributes to the development of individual student Behaviour and Social Participation Plans and coordinates the plan’s evaluation;Communicates with guardians, clinicians, social workers, school representatives, and other individuals involved in case management;Participates in case conferences, team meetings, and supervision;Provides other supports as directed by administration. QualificationsThe suitable candidate Bachelor’s degree in social work, counseling, or psychology (diplomas in relevant field may be considered with experience)Experience working with small and large groupsAbility to establish rapport with students and their familiesStrong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skillsStrong organizational and case management skillsTraining and, or experience in the field of gifted education and twice exceptionalities would be an assetTraining and, or experience in trauma informed support would be an assetStarting Date: August 27, 2026Wages: Salary will be commensurate with industry standard and will be negotiable based on education and school experience. This position will be eligible for benefits.
