About the Head Start Program:The Head Start Program on the Yellow Quill First Nation is dedicated to providing a nurturing and educational environment for young children and their families. We prioritize healthy eating, cultural values, and community engagement in all our activities. We are seeking a passionate and skilled Cook to join our team and contribute to the well-being of our children. Position Summary:As a Cook for the Head Start Program, you will be responsible for preparing nutritious meals and snacks that meet the dietary needs of children aged 0-6 years. You will play a vital role in creating a positive mealtime experience that promotes healthy eating habits and supports the overall mission of our program. Key Responsibilities:- Prepare and cook balanced, nutritious meals and snacks in accordance with established menus and dietary guidelines.- Ensure all food is prepared in a safe and sanitary manner, following food safety and hygiene regulations.- Plan menus that reflect cultural diversity and promote healthy eating habits among children.- Maintain inventory of food supplies and assist with ordering as needed.- Collaborate with teaching staff to incorporate food-related activities that align with the educational curriculum.- Maintain cleanliness and organization in the kitchen and dining areas.- Engage with children during mealtimes, fostering a positive and inclusive atmosphere. Qualifications:- Proven experience as a cook, preferably in a childcare or educational setting.- Knowledge of nutrition and dietary requirements for young children.- Familiarity with food safety regulations and best practices.- Strong organizational and time-management skills.- Ability to work collaboratively with a team and communicate effectively with staff, children, and families.- Cultural sensitivity and an understanding of the values of the Yellow Quill First Nation community. Education:- Culinary certification or degree preferred, but not required.- Food Handler Certification is an asset. Compensation:- Competitive salary based on experience.- Benefits package includes health and wellness initiatives. Application Process:Interested candidates are invited to submit their resume and a cover letter (please include position applying for) detailing their relevant experience and passion for working with children to: Shantel Poorman, HR, shantel.poorman@yqfn.ca
